Tea: 2025 The First Spring Gongmei Silver Needle (Special Grade Gongmei Small Needle in the First Spring of 2025)
Origin: Gangtou, Panxi, Fuding
Year: 2025
Features: Pinewood, citrus, sea salt, and a sweet taste
Annotation:
This Silver Needle is different than all others you have tried. This tea plant is indigenous to Fuding city and is called Gong Mei. The sprouting time of this tea is earlier than other species of white tea, so this is the freshest white tea on the market.
We visited four tea factories in Fuding and only our favorite source produced this tea, and by hand! Mr. Xu produced a rare tea that can not even be found on the tea street full of white tea sellers. We tried it and secured about a fifth of the total supply. It is really that good.
Very few tea factories produce this tea because it is not prolifically grown locally. There is a limited supply. We at Tea Hound highly suggest you try it while you can. This tea will revolutionize the way you view silver needle white tea.
Tasting Notes:
At the beginning, you may taste a very obvious grassy flavor and similar to a forest of pine trees. The overall taste is sweet and overcomes the grassy flavor.
From the second infusion, the taste of the tea soup becomes very balanced and extremely smooth, and the grassy flavor almost disappears.
In the fourth infusion, personally, I tasted a refreshing aroma similar to the peel of citrus fruits, and the aftertaste stimulates the whole mouth with a floral aroma.
While savoring this pour, I was reminded of the taffy candies we ate when we were young because of the salty and sweet flavors.
Interestingly, the taste of coconut water was also brought to mind. It is a very interesting and rare tea and its sweetness remains consistent.
When approaching the end, the taste of water starts to appear and, at this time, the faint flavor of grass mixed with pinewood appears again. After brewing this Baihao Yinzhen 10 times, I’m sure it can be poured a few more times. 20 minutes after finishing the tea session, my mouth is still sweet with the aftertaste.
Gongmei silver needle is definitely a high-end white tea that is very suitable for storage and also very suitable for drinking in the current season.
Reference for the number of infusions: > 12 times
Brewing Suggestions:
For the first three infusions, use boiling water to pour in a clockwise direction along the wall of the Gaiwan cup, and pour out the tea soup in 7, 8, and 9 seconds. For the subsequent infusions, you can increase the brewing time by 2-3 seconds according to your own taste. It is not recommended to steep the tea for too long!
